The European Chemicals Agency\u2019s (ECHA) Risk Assessment Committee (RAC) and Socio-Economic Analysis Committee (SEAC) advanced their evaluation of the proposed EU-wide restriction on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). During their March 2025 meetings, provisional conclusions were reached regarding fluorinated gas applications, while RAC finalized interim assessments for transport and energy sectors. Afterwards, SEAC will further analyze the socio-economic impacts of these sectors in June.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Upcoming Evaluations<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The committees outlined their agenda for the June 2025 meetings:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Joint RAC-SEAC reviews<\/strong>: Medical devices and lubricants.<\/li>\n<li><strong>SEAC follow-ups<\/strong>: Transport and energy sector impacts.<\/li>\n<li><strong>RAC preliminary evaluations<\/strong>: Electronics and semiconductors and Remaining applications<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Harmonized Classification Updates<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>During the meetings, RAC adopted 13 revised chemical classifications, including significant updates for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Silver nitrate<\/strong>: New classifications for reproductive toxicity (Category 1B) and carcinogenicity (Category 2), with modifications across nine hazard categories.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Synthetic amorphous silica<\/strong>: Proposed harmonized classification as a respiratory hazard (STOT RE 1) due to prolonged inhalation risks<a href=\"https:\/\/echa.europa.eu\/-\/highlights-from-march-2025-rac-and-seac-meetings\">8<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Authorization Progress<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>RAC drafted opinions on 17 authorization applications, while SEAC finalized four opinions and three assessment reports.
