What is the objective of Directive (EU) 2024/825 on Greenwashing?
Directive (EU) 2024/825 aims to empower consumers in the ecological transition through two pillars:
- Better protection against unfair practices:
- Combats «greenwashing» with stricter requirements for environmental claims of products and services.
- Prohibits practices such as planned obsolescence and false information about sustainability.
- Better information:
- Requires companies to provide clear, truthful, and comparable information on the environmental impact of their products.
- Creates a digital passport for electronic products that tracks their environmental footprint throughout their life cycle.
Date of entry into force:
The Directive was published in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU) on March 6, 2024. Member States have until March 27, 2026 to transpose it into their national legislation.

- New criteria for environmental claims: They are based on scientific evidence and verifiable methodologies.
